Our new XGT 40V Max range provides the highest power Makita cordless tools to handle the most demanding tasks. Here we look at the benefits and what’s in the range.
XGT is a standalone 40V Max lithium-ion battery platform providing power for a new range of high-performance tools. It sits alongside our industry-leading LXT system to offer cordless solutions for all applications. Every aspect of the XGT tools and battery system have been designed especially for the toughest jobs and environments.
To achieve the optimum power required for heavier load applications without sacrificing battery run-time, Makita decided not to go down the route of a multi-voltage platform and instead developed the new XGT 40V system with a dedicated battery and charging system. We feel this system can be developed even further in the future to provide greater benefits for industrial users.
High power
The increased output is ideal for industrial and higher demand applications. In fact, some of the tools in the XGT range allow a task to be completed up to 40% more effectively when compared to 18v alternatives. This increased power and performance means that the XGT cordless machines offer an output that can rival mains powered corded tools or even some petrol engine machines.
Ease and safety
This level of power allows more demanding tasks to be completed with the advantages of cordless technology. Removing the need for power cables eliminates a potential trip hazard from the working environment, making it safer for the user and those around them. This also removes the need to plan the safe placement and routing of cables, making work quicker and simpler.
Furthermore, as with our LXT battery platform, XGT batteries will charge fast to help ensure maximum productivity. The new charger will recharge a 2.5Ah battery in just 28 minutes with a 4.0Ah battery fully charging in just 45 minutes.
Brushless technology
The XGT range also includes brushless motors. As there are no moving parts within the motor that generate friction, there is less energy lost through heat meaning longer run times before the battery needs charging. In addition, tools with brushless motors have lower on-going maintenance costs due to the reduced wear and tear.
Tough design
The XGT batteries have been engineered for durability with features to minimise damage, even in tough environments. The shock absorbing heavy duty outer casing and cell holder protects the battery if dropped. The battery is also IPX4 rated with a triple layer waterproofing, which means it is splash and shower proof, ideal for work outside in unpredictable weather or on pipework and plumbing systems. The design also prevents damage from dust ingress.
Smart technology
To optimise the battery performance, lifespan and charge times, the XGT products feature a smart technology unique to Makita. It allows digital communication between the battery and the charger, as well as the battery and the tool. It provides protection against issues such as over discharge and overheating.
For July 2020, the new 40V XGT range includes:
